The Fremont Police Department has joined the Neighbors by Ring app program. This is a free and private neighborhood social network that allows the sharing of real-time information to help reduce crime in our community. By choosing to download this application on your smartphone, you have the opportunity to know when and where things are happening in your area and the option to share updates. Now, the Fremont Police Department can view what local residents have posted publicly to Neighbors and provide information with relevant updates or safety precautions. The police department never has direct access to any video. The video content must be posted by a user publicly. Also, when users provide video, the content is provided anonymously with no identifiers or location.  You do not need a Ring device to join Neighbors. Anyone with a smartphone can download the app to receive updates, and users have the option to share photos or videos from any device.  A user may receive information in the following categories: Crime, Safety, Lost & Found, and Public Safety. You may also filter these categories to your preferences. To download this free app simply text “staysafe” to 555888 or visit your app store. The Fremont Police Department will not be taking police reports through this system and still want the community to call our non-emergency number (510)790-6800 Ext 3 or 911 in case of an emergency.

As a user, here are just some examples of information you should report on the Neighbors app:

  • Criminal Activity
  • Criminal activity involving, theft, damage, illegal entry, or violence.
  • Suspicious Activity
  • Attempted criminal activity or unusual behavior that is cause for concern.
  • Unknown visitors
  • An unknown person with questionable intent who is on your property.
  • Safety
  • Discussion of potentially dangerous incidents or activity.

We believe joining efforts with Neighbors Ring app will help strengthen and streamline our partnership with our Fremont residents. Whether or not you are part of a Neighborhood Watch Group or live in a Crime Free Complex, we hope this service will provide another efficient and effective way of crime prevention communication. We will be generally monitoring activity and questions on Neighbors during regular business hours (Monday-Friday). Please feel free to spread the word and remember to always report criminal activity such as theft or emergency situations directly to the Fremont Police Department at (510)790-6800 ext. 3 or 911 in case of an emergency.
