Incident:  Fatal Hit and Run Traffic Collision (Update #1)

It is with unfortunate news that Allen Kwok Keung Sham (69) out of Livermore succumbed to his injuries on July 7, 2021 as a result of the collision on June 30, 2021. The hit-and-run suspect(s) and the vehicle remain at large. Fremont Chief of Police Kimberley Petersen offers her sincere condolences to Mr. Sham’s family.

Video surveillance footage was provided to the Traffic Unit investigators by a nearby business.  The initial investigation determined that on June 30, 2021, between 10:15 p.m. to 10:25 p.m, the victim was walking west along the right lane of Peralta Blvd and was struck by the suspect vehicle from behind.  The driver did not make any attempt to check on the welfare of the pedestrian.  The vehicle stopped briefly, backed up, and then turned right on Dusterberry Way. It was unknown whether the suspect vehicle turned right or left on Hansen Ave or continued towards Thornton Ave.

The suspect vehicle is described as a dark-colored sedan. It will most likely have moderate damage to its front bumper, engine hood, and/or windshield area.

This is Fremont’s sixth fatal traffic collision investigation in 2021.

The Fremont Police Traffic Investigations Unit is soliciting the public’s help for any additional investigative leads. Incident:  Felony Hit and Run Traffic Collision
Report Number: 210701001
Location: Dusterberry Wy/Peralta Blvd
Date/Time:  June 30, 2021, at 10:28 p.m.

On Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Fremont Police and Fremont Fire personnel responded to the intersection of Dusterberry Way and Peralta Blvd regarding a man lying in the roadway.  Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian in the roadway and immediately provided medical aid.  The 69-year-old man was transported to a local trauma center. Preliminary investigation revealed he was pushing a cart full of recyclables and personal items when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver fled the scene in the vehicle before Fremont Police’s arrival.

Traffic investigators are seeking assistance from anyone who may have witnessed this collision or may have seen the pedestrian pushing the cart in the area prior to the collision.
