Press Release #2: Suspect in September 18, 2025 Homicide Charged with Murder

On Thursday, September 18, 2025, at approximately 11:57 a.m., the Fremont Police Department received a 911 call regarding a violent altercation between two individuals at a residence in the 600 block of Upper Vinters Circle. The reporting party indicated one individual was gravely injured.

Within minutes, officers arrived on scene and located an unresponsive 71-year-old male victim on the ground. The victim was suffering from significant stab wounds. Officers immediately administered trauma care; however, the victim passed away on the scene.

Officers found the suspect, Varun Suresh (29 years old, resident of Fremont), standing outside the residence.  Suresh was arrested at the scene, and a knife was recovered.

Evidence at the scene indicated a violent struggle. Further investigation revealed that Suresh specifically targeted the victim because of the victim’s age and previous offenses. Suresh admitted that he sought out registered sex offenders as potential victims. During the attack, Suresh chased the victim into an unrelated home to continue inflicting harm.

Following the investigation, detectives presented the case to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office on September 22, 2025. Suresh has been charged with Penal Code 187(a) – murder, Penal Code 12022 – armed individual causing great bodily injury, and Penal Code 459 – residential burglary.

This is Fremont’s fifth homicide in 2025.

Press Release #1: Homicide Suspect Arrested Following Stabbing Incident

On Thursday, September 18, 2025, at approximately 12:01 p.m., multiple Fremont Police Officers responded to the 600 block of Upper Vintners Circle to the report of an altercation. The reporting party advised that two subjects were actively fighting in front of a home. Officers arrived on scene and located an unresponsive victim on the ground. The victim was suffering from significant stab wounds. Officers immediately administered trauma care, however, the victim passed away on scene. The other subject involved in the altercation was detained at the scene, and a knife was recovered.

Fremont Police Department Crimes Against Persons Unit responded to assume the homicide investigation. The detained subject, identified as Varun Suresh (29 years old, resident of Fremont), was placed under arrest for Penal Code 187(a) – Murder. Based on investigative leads, we believe this is an isolated incident, where Suresh targeted the victim for specific reasons. Detectives, crime scene investigators and officers continue to process the scene and follow-up on additional background information. There is no threat to the community, and the subject remains in custody.

The case will be presented to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for charging.

This is Fremont’s fifth homicide in 2025.
