Updates to February 3, 2026, Homicide Investigation

On February 3, 2026, at approximately 4:19 p.m., the Fremont Police Department received multiple 911 calls of a shooting that occurred in the area of Central Avenue and Joseph Street. Patrol officers responded immediately and arrived on scene within minutes.

Officers located one victim on the ground and rendered trauma care. The victim later succumbed to their injuries.  This was Fremont’s second homicide in 2026.

Fremont Police Department Crimes Against Persons Unit detectives took over the investigation and identified the subjects involved in the homicide.

On April 4, 2026, Hayward Police Department officers responded to a call for service regarding trespassing.  During the detention of the involved trespassing subjects, officers recognized two of the subjects, 19-year-old Kaleb Soto and 42-year-old Ricardo Duran, as persons of interest in the Fremont homicide investigation.  In coordination with Hayward PD, Fremont investigators took custody of Soto and Duran, who were later booked on their warrants for PC 187- Homicide.
