Brede, Lance

Deputy Police Chief Lance Brede joined the Fremont Police Department in 2022.  The rank of Deputy Chief was created to directly support a variety of functions within the police department, including enhancing community service objectives.  With thirty-two years of dedicated experience in law enforcement, Lance is the department’s second-in-command and has general supervising responsibilities of division commanders.  As the department’s Deputy Chief, he serves within the Office of the Chief, overseeing the Office of Professional Standards and Accountability.  Deputy Chief Brede’s role and responsibilities include enhancing the agency's overall operational and administrative functions, supporting the organization’s strategic plans, managing the department’s public communications, contractual services, and upholding professional standards, training, and accountability. 

Before joining our team, Lance served the East Bay Regional Park District from December 1993 to June 2022,  managing or supervising various divisions such as Patrol Services, Investigations, Air Support, and specialized enforcement teams.  Lance has extensive experience in organizational accreditation, tactics, strategic planning, interagency coordination, and community engagement. Lance holds a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a Master's degree in Organizational Leadership from Columbia Southern University. He also earned an associate degree from Ohlone College. Additionally, he is a graduate of the 2014 FBI National Academy (NA 256) and the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute (SLI 249).
