Lieutenant Matthew Bocage joined the Fremont Police Department in 2003 and has served as a Watch Commander in the Patrol Division since May 2022.
Prior to his promotion, Lieutenant Bocage served as a sergeant, beginning in December 2012, and worked as a patrol supervisor and School Resource Unit supervisor. Lieutenant Bocage has worked several administrative and collateral assignments, including Robbery/Homicide Investigator, Burglary Detective, Hostage Negotiations Team Supervisor, Defense Tactics Instructor, Field Training Officer, and Fremont Police Association Director-at-Large.
Lieutenant Bocage currently oversees the Field Training Program, the Peer Support Program, the Crowd Management Team, and the Honor Guard unit.
Lieutenant Bocage was born and raised in the tri-city area, is a U.S. Air Force Veteran and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from California State University, Hayward.
Outside of his professional duties, Lieutenant Bocage enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, and winemaking.
