As of January 2024, Captain Snelson is serving as Commander of the Special Operations Division.
Snelson was promoted to Captain in January 2022 and served as Commander of the Administrative Operations Division.
Snelson was promoted to lieutenant in 2015 and previously managed the Personnel & Training Unit and was also the FPD administrator for department policies. A native of Fremont, he joined the Fremont Police Department in 2003 as an officer and was promoted to sergeant in 2012. As an officer he served as a field training officer, canine officer, peer support team member, SWAT team member, and detective. After being promoted to sergeant, he served as a patrol supervisor, school resource unit supervisor, and SWAT team leader. As a lieutenant, he was a Patrol Watch Commander for three years and manages the FPD Special Response Unit, Canine Unit, and Unmanned Ariel Systems team.
Captain Snelson has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from California State University Hayward and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from California State University East Bay.
