Modified Hours for Staff Training:
The Police Department lobby, 2000 Stevenson Blvd., will be CLOSED on Monday, March 23, 2026, due to staff training. The Records Unit will not be reachable via phone on this day.

The Police Department lobby, 2000 Stevenson Blvd., will have modified hours on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, through Friday, March 27, 2026, due to staff training. The front lobby of the Police Department will open at 7 a.m. and close at 4:30 p.m. on these days. The Records Unit will only be reachable during these hours on these days.

The Records Unit is comprised of one records administrator, three records supervisors, seven records specialists, and three records assistants.

We are available to assist you at the front counter and in service calls pertaining to the following:

The Police Department lobby is generally open for service Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. We are closed on City-observed holidays. Effective February 5, 2024, the Police Department lobby will be open Monday - Friday 6:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and closed on City-observed holidays.

FAQs

Is my police report ready?
Please call ahead to make sure your report is ready and available - (510) 790-6860, or for your convenience, you may email us at records@fremont.gov and provide the following information:
- Date of birth
- Date, time, and location of occurrence
- Name
- Report Number
- Type of Report (e.g. traffic accident, crime, or other)
How do I get a copy of a crime report?

Copies of releasable crime reports are available to authorized parties. Government Code 6254 and case law restricts the supplying of police reports in certain circumstances. Once a crime report is filed with the District Attorney's Office, suspects, victims, and other interested parties should contact the Alameda County Superior Court - Fremont Hall of Justice, District Attorney's Office at (510) 795-2500 for additional information.

To purchase a copy of a releasable crime report, you must complete an Application for Release of Information request form or visit our Records Unit Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 5:30 pm.

The Police Department lobby is open to the public Monday – Friday 6:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and closed on City-observed holidays.

You may return the form by faxing it to the Records Unit at (510) 790-6831, or drop it off at the front desk in the lobby area.

If your request meets the criteria for release of disclosable public records, it will be available for purchase (upon receipt of the form) within 10 days of receipt of request.

Please Note: Effective April 5, 2017, a fee of $16 is charged for each report.
Is there a cost to getting a copy of my police report?

All police reports cost $16 each. You may pay cash, check, or credit card (MasterCard or Visa). No check-cards or ATM cards are accepted.
I was issued a ticket. What is the fine and how do I pay?

Call the Fremont Hall of Justice, Traffic Division at (510) 818-7502 for the fine amounts. You may either mail the payment to the courthouse or take it to the courthouse.

I tried to pay my ticket, but the court cannot find it. What do I do?

Call the Fremont Police Department Records Unit at (510) 790-6860 for assistance.
I lost my ticket, but I fixed the problems. What do I do?
1. Go to the courthouse and get a copy of the ticket.
2. Bring the citation to any law enforcement agency with your vehicle, and someone will sign off the ticket.
3. Return the ticket to the courthouse (either by mail or in person):

My vehicle was towed and I need to know where it is. Can you tell me?
To locate your vehicle the following information is needed:
- Vehicle license plate or VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) number
- Registered owner's name and address
- Year of vehicle and vehicle make
- Last known location of vehicle

What are the fees for a towed vehicle?

If your vehicle was towed for anything other than being involved in a traffic accident or a recovered stolen vehicle, the fee is $105 and payable at the time of release. There will be additional fees from the tow company for their services.
Can someone else pick up my vehicle release?
Yes, but the following is required:
- A notarized letter with your signature authorizing the person to pick up your vehicle
- A copy of your driver's license or government-issued identification card
- The person picking up the vehicle release must also have a valid driver's license
If I disagree with the reason my vehicle was towed, who can I contact?

This section is in regards to your impounded or stored vehicle (including 30 day towed vehicles).

If you disagree with your vehicle being towed by Fremont Police Department's staff, you may file an online protest or call the Tow Hearing Official at (510) 790-6899.

You may go to the Crime Statistics page or Sexual Offender Locator page on our website. There you will see the reported crimes for your desired location and the general locations where sexual offenders reside.
How can I obtain a restraining order?

In Alameda County, court orders are dealt with in person at the Hayward Hall of Justice.

You may self-surrender at the Fremont City Detention / Jail Facility, Monday through Friday before 8:30 am, holidays excluded.

Can I find out if someone else has a warrant?

No.
Which types of reports can be released to me?
Traffic Accident Reports
- The driver or drivers involved
- The guardian or conservator thereof
- The parent of a minor driver
- The authorized representative of a driver
- Any named person injured therein
- The owners of vehicles or property damaged thereby
- Any persons who may incur civil liability, including liability based upon a breach of warranty arising out of the accident
- Any attorney who declares under penalty of perjury that they represent any of the above persons
Crime Reports
- Full police report requests for crime reports are released ONLY once it has been reviewed, approved and finalized but can also require further approval for release depending on if a case is still open or if there is no disposition from the District Attorney’s office. Crime reports and are subject to denial and/or redaction of portions of the report to ensure safeguarding of sensitive information and legal compliance.
Incident History (CAD LOG)
- Incident History Logs are considered Public Record and releasable to any citizen. Incident History Logs are subject to redaction of portions of the Incident History Log to ensure safeguarding of sensitive information and legal compliance.
Juvenile Reports
- Juvenile Court has exclusive authority in determining the extent to which juvenile record information may be released (excluding traffic collision reports) to third parties. Each request must be reviewed prior to release.
Arrest Reports
- If the requestor has been arrested and/or is a named suspect in a report, the Fremont Police Department will not release the report to the requestor. Arrested parties must obtain the report through the court or through their attorney as part of the discovery process.
Who can receive a copy of a police or traffic report?
Copies of police reports may be requested by authorized parties of interest, including:
- A victim or named witness of a crime
- Party or registered owner of a vehicle involved in a traffic collision
- Parent or guardian of a victim juvenile*
- Authorized representative of the victim of crime*
- The insurance carrier against whom claim has been made or may be made
- Person who suffered bodily injury or property damage as a result of an incident (named in the report).
