The following Obituary is provided by Captain Bobbitt's family. 

Frederick “Freddie” Henry Bobbitt Jr. was called home by God on Monday February 21, 2022 .in his home in Tracy, California.  Freddie was preceded in death by his father, Frederick Henry Bobbitt Sr.  Freddie is survived by his wife Annabel Bobbitt, his mother Delores Radford, his three daughters Samantha (Mark Sr.), Taylor (Shelbi), and Briana, his three sons Frederick Michael (Jodi), Korey, and Kristien, his four grandsons Mark Jr., Frederick “Mikey” Jr., Max, and Zayden, his brother Raymond, his sister Septina, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and an Army of Friends.

Freddie was born on July 1, 1967 in Oakland, California, and grew up in his family home on 80^th Avenue.  Freddie went to elementary school in Oakland, Hopkins Middle School, and graduated from Mission San Jose High School in Fremont.  He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Union University, and went on to achieve his Master's Degree from American Military University.  Growing up in Oakland, Freddie played youth sports of all kinds at Arroyo Park.  He was an altar boy at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and was a boy scout at Allen Temple Baptist Church.

In high school Freddie was a star varsity basketball player affectionately known as “Chocolate Ice” for his amazing passing skills.  Freddie was loved by all and made sure everyone was included.

Nothing was more important to Freddie than his family and being a Peace Officer.  Freddie convinced his mother to allow him to join the Fremont Police Department as an “Explorer” in 1985, while still in high school, and never looked back.  Freddie honorably served the Fremont Police Department and community of Fremont for more than 36 years.  While a member of the Fremont Police Department, Freddie served as a Reserve Officer, Detention Technician, Detention Supervisor, Patrol Officer, Robbery/Homicide OIS Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and Acting Chief.  Freddie was highly decorated, including being selected as “Officer of the Year” in 2003, and a “Community Hero” Honoree by the California State Assembly.  Freddie was probably most proud of founding the “Building Bridges Program” which allowed more than 9,000 6^th graders of Fremont Unified School District to build relationships with Fremont Police employees.

Freddie loved coaching his kids in sports, attending ALL of their sporting events, and hosting family functions in his home.  He was an avid sports fan who LOVED the San Francisco 49ers and Golden State Warriors.

Freddie spent countless hours volunteering in the community and mentoring police officers on his own time.  He was everyone’s “fix it man.”  Annabel was the love of his life, and he was the happiest in his home life that he had ever been.  Freddie’s legacy will forever live on through his family, friends, and countless lives he touched everywhere he went.

Captain Fred Bobbitt passed away on February 21, 2022, at age 54.

As of December 2021, Captain Fred Bobbitt was serving as the Commander of the Patrol Division.  

Captain Fred Bobbitt formerly served as the Commander of the Special Operations Division from July 2017 to January 2020, and commander of the Patrol Division from January 2020 to January 2021. He served as Commander of the Administrative Operations Division, formerly also known as the Professional Support Services Division from January - December 2021.  

Captain Fred Bobbitt joined the Fremont Police Department in 1985 as a police explorer while attending Mission San Jose High School. He became a Fremont reserve police officer in 1987 and a detention technician in Fremont's Detention Facility in 1990. He was promoted to police officer in 1997. As an officer, he served as a field training officer, EVOC instructor, bicycle officer, mentor, and peer support team member. In 2000, he was promoted to detective and spent eight years as a Robbery/Homicide detective. After being promoted to sergeant, he served as a patrol supervisor and detective sergeant. As a lieutenant, he was a Patrol Watch Commander, Volunteer "VIPS" team manager, and Detention Facility and Property and Evidence Unit manager.

Fred Bobbitt was promoted to the rank of Police Captain in 2015 and assumed responsibility for re-forming the Department's Administrative Operations Division, where he had oversight of the Detention Facility, Animal Shelter, Training and Personnel, Records Division and Internal Affairs. In July of 2017, Captain Bobbitt transferred to the Special Operations Division.

Captain Bobbitt had a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Management from Union Institute and University and a Master of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from American Military University. Captain Bobbitt was also a graduate of POST Command College, Class 59. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and four grandchildren.
