How do I obtain a Vehicle Release Form if my car has been towed?
VEHICLE RELEASE PROCEDURES
If your vehicle has been towed within the City of Fremont, you may contact our Records Unit for assistance and information at 510-790-6000. Please have your license plate number or VIN readily available.
To retrieve your vehicle from the tow yard, a Vehicle Release Form is required. Please note that releases are issued only to the registered owner of the vehicle. If someone other than the registered owner needs to pick up the release and the vehicle, the registered owner must provide either:
- A completed Authorization for Police to Release Vehicle form, or
- A signed notarized letter containing all required information authorizing the release.
To obtain a Vehicle Release Form, please bring the following:
- A valid driver’s license. If you are authorizing another person to retrieve the vehicle, they must also present their valid driver’s license.
- Current vehicle registration
- If applicable a payment of the $105 tow release fee (Note: This fee is waived for recovered stolen vehicles.)
